There is a critically urgent need for greater resources for the provision of services actually delivered to children in out of home care and to prevention programs that reduce the risk of children entering care.

Recently there have been significant increases to funding for child protection and the Alliance acknowledges the role of the WA Government in this. However, most of this money was allocated to increased investigation of children who might be at risk and to Departmental costs: there were no significant increases in money spent directly on children in care or services delivered to them.

The Alliance policy calls for:

  • Funding for higher standards of care than is currently supported, including trauma treatment for every child, health care, education support and typical Aussie kid standards of care, including social and sporting opportunities.

The Alliance is pleased that two of our policies have been implemented:

  • Unit cost (a fixed price per child).
  • Prevention services have been expanded.
